Hi all,
should be getting my Defi's before the weekend, what is involved in fitting the EGT, I know you need to drill and tap the manifold but are there any other fittings req.
I guess this is not really a DIY type job or is it?
Also got boost gauge coming, how easy to plumb in? any advice? I guess the boost is DIY, well more so than EGT?

Cheers, Paul

Evening, fitting both gauges is not to bad for a competent DIY'er, except for the drilling and taping of the EGT probe as you said.

You may want to consider having one of the tuners fit the probe part of the EGT as it may save any heartache. If your experienced with drilling and taping metal then there's no reason why you can't give it a go yourself.

As for the rest of the EGT, you will have to run a wire from the EGT probe into your cockpit and to your desired location for the gauge (or its control box). The gauge (or control box) will also need an ignition switched 12v supply, ground, illumination and possibly a constant 12v supply.

Not too hard as most of these supplies are available from the back of the stock clock.

As for the boost gauge, well same electrical connections and you just need to tee into one of the manifold pipes.

Take a look at this article for some good instructions.

Cheers for that info Martin, good idea about taking off the back of the clock mate!
I have been in engineering all my life so drilling/tapping ain't a problem, just wondered about the swarf issue, getting into manifold? oh, and the correct position of the probe.

The swarf issue doesn't seem to be as big a one as at first seems. A good squirt of oil can help.

As for best location, well that would be on the No6 exhaust runner, but its a pig to get to and would take a lot of time. A lot of people end up having the probe in the exhaust runner of cylinder No1, which is still a pretty good location IMO.

Here's a couple of pics of mine on runner No1, installed by CW.

funny. mine appears to be after the turbo!!!

is that ok?

After turbo you will see it lowered as much as 200 deg and it will respond very slowly, when fitted in the exhaust manifold you get a true reading as well as the gauge responding very fast.

I use to have mine mounted after the turbo and I got Chris Wilson to move it for a very resonable price.
