View Full Version : Does your clock dim?

Question for you all:

Does the brightness of the digital clock alter when you use the dash brightness knob?

Mine dims a bit when you turn the head/sidelights on, like the ODO, but unlike the ODO it doesn't then dim with the rest of the dash when you turn down the dimmer knob. Just wondering if it's supposed to.

Also, what wire do I need to plumb into to get my boost guage to dim with the rest of the dash?

Can't remember whether my clock dims with the dash i'm afraid.

To get your boost gauge to dim with the rest of the dash is not simple as Toyota decided (in their wisdom) to control the ground side of the dash illumination rather than the supply side.

You need to build an inverter as shown here (http://www.supras.nl/view.php?page=modsGaugeDimmer.htm) on Arnouts site.

I know - I'm asking everywhere about this?

Blimey - blinking complicated!

Nathan - did you muck about with an inverter when you fitted the boost guage to my old white one? ?If so, do you have any kicking around? http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif It replaced the clock, so I'm wondering if that negated the need for an inverter...

I'm sure mine did.

My EGT gauge was accidently wired incorrectly one time and the EGT's were adjustable with the dimmer http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Can't help I'm afraid Keith- Sorry but I don't even remember you coming here for a boost gauge fitment! I'd be surprised if we would have fitted or made up an inverter just to dim the gauge with the rest of the dash- the illumination for it would have just been picked up off something obvious like the trigger for the side/headlights, via a relay if necessary.

Oh, I didn't have the car at the time, it belonged to Drew. http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I've gone a bit OT though really as I'm not looking to replace the clock with anything, I'm just baffled as to whether the clock is supposed to dim when the rest of the dash is dimmed using the dimmer control!

Ah..yes, Drew. Theres a blast from the past! I'm sure he was on this list at one point...

I'm pretty sure the clock doesn't dim...surely someone can try it and put us out of our misery?!

Hi all,
i tried my dimmer today, and the answer to your question, is no the clock does not dim with the rest of the lights. That is aslong as mine is working correctly, which i am sure it is lol.:)

Cheers for that - just wanted to make sure something wasn't broken.

Did your ODO dim though? http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
