Anyone know the percentage of tinting that's on stock Supra doorglass?

Only I wanted to darken mine a little but have been told that the stock glass is already tinted to the legal limit. Can anyone shed some light on this please? pardon the pun http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I recently had my windows tinted on the Supra and had 50% on the back window and two back side windows and 15% on the front side windows. ?The windscreen cannot be done for legal reasons so I was told. ?I went to a very good company and it cost me a lot of money, but it does look good and within the legal limits. ? http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

As far as I was aware, since early this year ANY tint over a factory tint on the front side windows/windscreen is illegal. Most modern cars are already tinted to the latest limits, therefore anything on top is dodgy. Just a case of if you get a copper who wants to be arsey about it, hmmmm thats all of the gits then lol.
Might be worth getting the official word on it instead of the people selling it to you?

Chief

My Supra is black. I got windows tinted because it looks better and with the 50% on the back window it makes it hard for people to see my sub and amp in there too.

My windows are within the legal limits as the company I went to took advice and only tint cars to within the legal limits.

I think i'll go ahead with it even if it does throw them past the legal limit a tad. The security and safety benefits alone far outweigh the needs of an arsey copper. Plus of course they do look good http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

http://www.scotglass.co.uk/window-tinting-regulation.html

"As of 1st January 2004, Section 32 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations bans ALL tinted films from being fitted to windows forward of the B-Post on any vehicle that is to be driven on UK roads."

They sell/fit the stuff so hardly going to be hurting there own pockets if it ain't true

"We at Scotglass Ltd previously tinted glass with a less severe window tint but now fully comply with the requirements of Section 32 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations and no longer tint forward of the B-Post. We will however, where necessary remove any film applied to vehicles tinted prior to 1st January 2004 at no extra charge"

Sorry m8 but you might wana check your 'facts' http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

What is the point in this silly nonsense about the law. We drive Supras, its impossible unless you are brain dead to keep the speed limit always in a Supra. Have a bit of sense. Cops hate you the moment they see you in a Supra, so who cares. Cant wait to see all the limo's with the b pillar forward untinted. Technically speaking (ha ha), being law abiding and Supra owning go together like classical music and hip hop, innit.
Hope you enjoy every moment of your tints Karen http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with it for a second. Like I don't agree with a lot of motoring laws, ahem speeding anyone! :;):

But when someone is declaring one thing as 'legal' when its technically not, thats speading misleading information that someone could take for being accurate and then do something they wouldn't have before or at least not look into the facts correctly. Same as me saying 'its now ok to do 90MPH on the motorway honest, I've been told so'.

Whether we agree or disagree and therefore choose to obey or disabey the letter of the law (which we all do in some way), we should at least be honest about it so others can make the same choice http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Doesn't make any difference to my life what tints someone has or doesn't have lol, was just trying to help clear the issue up with the facts. Sorry, I'll shut-up and fall in line next time http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Thanks chief

I like the way the car looks with the tints as it is better security wise etc. I live by a police station and they don't give a toss about my car. I go through town music blaring a couple of times a day and often get police cars behind me. When they come along side me they look at the car, but they never stop me and tell me that my windows are illegal, so it must be ok. Get your tints done. I see loads of boy racers here with blacked out windows twice as dark as mine and they never get pulled either!

I would like to think that the police have much better things to do than waste there time messin about over the tinting of a cars windows... http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif But sometimes they prove me wrong...

I can't be the only Supra owner that has a clean license, surely Chief http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif . Because I live near not so sunny Southend the local police tend to be a bit less lenient when it comes to vehicles in the area, theres been a lot of hassle with the local boys at the seafront cruises etc. I went for a 65% tint in the end... darkened but not taking the piss, hopefully they'll leave me alone and search for Nova's http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I went for light smoke tints on my car (http://www.megaboost.co.uk/supra/mine/pics-10-5-04/DCP_4137.html) shortly after last summer, the car got so damn hot and I wanted to try and cool the interior down a little while enhancing the look of the car a little - they look pretty dark and are now illegal http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Those light smoke tints look very dark in the pic. Seems that only MOT centres are bothered about the tint, as I have recently seen a traffic branch Mitsubishi Galant VR4 estate with all side windows tinted!, pull them in and book them right away lmao.
Put it this way, most people number plates are illegal, and only the odd person gets pulled for that. I suppose it depends on where you live.
