just noticed my dash top is starting to part in the centre top section by the windscreen showing the foam sandwich, prob. thro' to much sunlight. Any body got a fix for this without taking all the dash apart. dont fancy that . ta

Sorry, can't help but, does anyone know what causes this ? age and conditions in the car...v hot in summer and v cold in winter ?

If good cleaning practice helps reduce this ?

Anyone

i still have no answer but the best i got till now is that having a black dash i have used a bottle of kiwi leather anti scuff liquid polish, bent a cotton bud in half, then gently dyed the sponge that is showing from the crack, this is no cure but it does make the crack disappear to the eye. i suppose you can pick this up in quite a few colours. looks far better. http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/run.gif

Not sure what the best fix would be in all honesty. However.........................

I do have a spare dash surround in good condition if you want to do the job properly. http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

But i warn you, it's a bitch of a job.

Been a bit slow on the uptake, sorry!

I used to work for VW and there were loads of leased company cars that came in with phone systems. Anyway, there was a guy who used to come round and fill in all the holes left in dash's once we had ripped the systems out. He did a proper pucker job, you would never have known there was a hole there!

thats the good bit, the bad bit is i can't remember who he is, company name, cost or anything like that and when i left, it was on bad terms and i very much doubt the VW garage would want to help! I will try though!

JIC used to know somebody like that as well, but again i have no idea what sort of name they would trade under.

I've the same problem. Been round to a couple of car trimmers locally but they say they can't do anything to help as what happens is the vinyl shrinks away in the heat due to not enough overlap. Accessability problems also loom as it isn't the easiest place to get to. Have found a couple of companies that do this dahboard repair that you were on about and have dropped them both an e-mail explaining the problem and asking if they can help. Will let you all know.
