I've not had the MKIV on a track but if i did i'd use a set of Chris Wilson Race Spec Pad's or Endless or Project Mu pads. I also know that Ferrodo have some race spec compounds as well.

It's a shame the TRD HP-Z's are not available any more as i have these fitted to mine and they are excellenet, but when they are gone, they are gone as they've been out of production for about 4 years now. Project Mu (not sure which compound) are supposed to be a close match.

Always good to take a spare set of OEM pads to a track day in case you do get through the pads. http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

From my experience

Porterfield Race pads - No fade, dust high, wear rate medium, discs wear high, noise yes

Chris Wilson supplied race pads - fade none, dust medium, wear rate medium, discs wear low, noise none.

Either will warp rotors high speed on the road or track.

They are both very good pads, If I had a dedicated track car I would go for the Porterfields however for a tracked street car I will stick with Chris Wilsons.

This is just the sort of useless answer I was hoping to aviod, no offence Martin, but you ought to read the question again lol.

Ok, in that case reading the question again, the 'why' would be because these are the recommendations from many who have taken the MKIV on a track. The Porterfields that Gavin has recommended are also a good choice and these compare closely to the CW pads (compound type to type), again thats not through personal experience but acquired knowledge.

My fast road pads will allow a UK calipered MKIV to do *MOST* peoples idea of a track day. My idea of a track day is to go as fast as the car is able, and I would probably put my race compound pads in even a UK braked car. They are noisy and dusty though, whilst the fast road compound ones are not. They are very diffrent compounds, horses for courses and all that. They are very different prices too, as I now get a superb deal on the fast road ones, of which i sell more on something like a 20 to one ratio :;):
