I've had one fitted for a about a month now, it's an amazing peice of kit. I seem to epnd more time looking at the digital speed readout than I do at the car's own speedo. WOrking from GPS, I can't wait until i get a chance to do a top speed run and get an accurate reading. http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif

Don't forget the GPS speed readout can't cope with angles...ie travelling uphill will look slower to the GPS than it really is.

I didn't know that. I live in the fens, so hills are not a problem for me.

I have a MKII Road Angel, i,m guessing this is what you guy's are on about, yeah it is a great bit of kit, i find it useful when travelling on roads your not used to as it gives good warnings as to fixed speed camera locations. Be warned though, although it's equipped with a tiny front and rear laser detector (not actually sure how effective they are) It does not have a Radar dectector as used in the sneeky roadside(behind bushes!http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Mobile Gatso set-ups, it's database does contain locations of known mobile Gatso locations which could get you of trouble, but it's not dead cert by no means.
Oh yeah, and i do find the Road Angel tends to fly off the dash onto the passenger floor during swift manuvores or sideways action antics!!! http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Im more impressed now as mines just saved me from a hidden camera.
Not a clue how much they are as mine was xmas prezzie but if your travelling around the country a fair bit then ?300 to ?400 is well worth it.
You get 6 months subscription for downloads free then think its about ?70 a year to update the locations of new cameras etc

Problem with the lazer detectors is that the lazer guns dont have as much "scatter" as the old radar guns did. This means that, unless you're very lucky and the police target a vehicle directly in front of you, the first you know about the trap is as your speed is taken. The reason that road angle doesn't have a radar detector is because of all the false alarms given out from remote garage door openers, etc. That saying the road angle is probably the best of it's type on the market.

To get around the lazer guns you would need a lazer jammer which is, of course illegal to use. ?This piece of equipment works by sending out a signal similar to that which the lazer gun uses. This effectivly means that the police cannot get a reading from their equipment. In the meantime all hell has let loose on your dashboard with lights flashing and a very loud buzzer signalling that you should loose enough speed quickly so you can switch the jammer off and let a reading be taken. ?Obviously, as stated above, it is illegal to use so that was just for info. ?? ? ? ? ?http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Is it illegal under its own directive or is it just covered by the 'perverting the course of justice' line ?

I know that radar jammers are illegal under the radio and telphony act, but wasn't aware something similar existed for laser transmissions.

I was in a friends car which was pulled over by the police and they said the Road Angel wasn`t breaking the law as it simply informed you when you were nearing an accident black spot ( ahem gatso ) but when they clocked the RA on his dash at 1st they started looking about in the grill etc etc for the jammer and radar/laser detector ( which my mate didn`t have ) the copper said if he`d found one that would be illegal and blah blah blah

They are illegal, but if you actually have a garage door for which it operates then its no problem http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Just the hassle of proving it!

I'm considering this option as my garage door needs widening (spelling?) so might check out prices of electric ones which use these devices..

It's covered by the 'perverting the course of justice' line however I've found this product which is trying to provide a legitimate reason to have it fitted.
LT400 (http://www.radarzone.co.uk/lrc100.htm)
Don't know anything about this product so not recomending it but sounds like a nice idea to have a light come on when you drive up to your house.!.! http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Don't know if a technical bod can clarify but as far as i was aware Laser(poss InfraRed??) and Radar Speed detectors operate differently, Laser being older technology used for Speed detecting which is what i think similar used for garage, high street shop doors, which emmit more scatter, so sensitive laser detecting Snoopers go off just driving down a high street past shops.
The Road Angel2 has a built in front and rear laser detector which i don't think is very sensitive, mines never gone off, have really used it down high streets much though.

Radar is new technology used in GATSO's and mobile GATSO which does'nt emmit an easily detectable signal so unless you've got a Radar jammer or GPS location for the Radar camera to forewarn you, your fcuked.
Company called Origin do a Road Angel type thing (GPS database black spot location warning device) Their Origin b2 which apparently soon to have an add-on Radar detector, think my mates been duped into buying in cos theirs no launch date for the radar detector and at over ?500 for the b2 he might as well have saved a 100quid and got the RAngel.

Police can usually tell if your using a Jammer as the Radar are quite acurate so when they get back scrambled readings can normally tell there's foul play, then start looking in peoples grill's!!!

You got those two the wrong way round, radar is the older technology which is also used by shop door openers and garage doors etc, whereas laser is the newer technology and less likely to suffer from false alarms. http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I have a bell camera detector which was great for the first few months but you soon get so pissed off by all the false alerts etc that you end up muting it which got me 3 points an having my license revoked cause at the time i had been driving for less than the 2 year probation period. WOuldnt mind knowing more about the road angel it sounds like a good piece of kit

road angels are superb for camera location etc etc ,
but most sat .nav. systems will now also give you camera locations & speed limits (not laser guns as there is no detecter)
a friend of mine has the tomtom 300 satnav system approx. ?350 and rates it highly
sat nav & camera locater combined ---- job done

Have had the older Road Angel for some time and have found it absolutely brilliant, only fault with design is that it does not display the speed limit at the camera. Not sure on the abilities of the mobile sensor as NEVER had it pick-up anything but on the other hand have not been caught on a mobile either http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif Brilliant when entering an area that is regulated by SPECS as flashes all the way through the zone.

im looking at buying the new Road Angel but dont really want a load of wires running from my cig lighter to the unit on the dash. Where has everyone mounted their detectors, and are they permenantly wired or are you using the original cig lighter adapter?
