They'r standard UK discs, but will need changing at the next service. I'm wondering wether to go for any others and weighing up the costs involved.

I don't really do track days, so it's road use only and am intending on getting Goodridge hoses fitted at the same time.

Will I have to replace pads as well and if so where can you get CW pads? I know these have come recommended.

I wouldn't mind some grooved/holey ones, just so when I paint the calipers the discs look as sweet and obviously those types cool quicker, especially in summer, when I intend to do long journeys!

You can do a lot worse than the stock disks and CW pads.

If you like the look of the drilled discs there a plenty around, but I would go for a quality make (Brembo?) Accept that under hard usage they are likely to crack and offer no real improvement in performance on a road car.

Drilling and slotting has nothing really to do with cooling

Agreed, that would be a good combo for a road car, plus new fluid and stainless hoses.

Its not necessary to replace pads when fitting new disks but its not a bad idea.

In my exp. grooved discs are noisy & make the pedal judder slightly. I have drilled & grooved brembos on my honda & they make little difference to it's braking ability. Although I have noticed that WRC cars use drilled discs, essential for cooling with their braking needs - have seen them glow red hot after a stage!!! But i doubt you will ever demand quite as much from your brakes as they do theirs (unless you thrash the sh*t out of them!http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I use the 3G discs which are brembo based, I got the 20 groove ones to help prevent warping. Don't get me wrong, if you want big brakes then a full big brake kit is needed. But as others have said there's lots of discs available, why not ring CW (Chris Wilson) and ask him when you order your CW (Chris Wilson) pads.

He is a member on here if you need his contact details, and he certainly knows his stuff to say the least.

Drilling discs is done to reduce unsprung weight and to relieve gas build up under the pads.

Slotting discs is done to to relieve gas build up under the pads and reduce glazing.

I understand that modern brake pad compounds don't suffer with gas build up.

think stock uk pads and discs are just fine for regular rd drivin, one of the most impressive things my mkiv does is stop,

well I`m probably going against the norm but I was underwhelmed when I moved over to UK brakes with s/s brake lines.

I was expecting a BIG improvement over my Jap brakes and was disappointed to say the least.

still look better behind the wheels http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The correct front discs are handed with the cooling vanes running in 2 different directions. They should pump air from the centre (eye) of the disc to the outer circumference, as each wheel roates in a different direction they use 2 discs with suitably radially angled vanes. El cheapo replacements generally don't have this worthwhile feature. The stock rear discs have straight vanes so are NOT handed.

yep your right about the handed cooling vanes but the why price diff ?
the discs are surely just a mirror image of each other so should cost the same
not to worry its only ?3

I agree that the stock discs are actually ruddy good but I have used quite a few sets of the DBA (www.dba.com.au) 4000XS series now and I like them lots. I wouldn't stick my neck out and say that are going to give you better braking but they are a very nicely made disc and certainly not worse than stock. Look good and a nice touch is that they come with temp paint already on them. Around ?215 a pair plus VAT.

OK, if I had to stick my neck out I WOULD say they are better at handling extended heavy stops.....not saying they will stop you any harder up till that roasting point though http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Think the stock discs are pretty good value at around ?150
for the pair, for rd use and with stock pads i think there great.

Unless your driving like loon everywhere http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/run.gif i cant see how your going to cook the brakes on rd http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shocked.gif

Ive done some big stops from totally flat out ie 150+ and hard on till you stop and no fade at all, reapeted lap after lap track day braking is a differant matter.
Especially with the mkiv being a little heavy http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/spank.gif
