?1100 for a Power steering cooling pipe??? Is this right

Can any one please advise. My power steering sprung a leak on Mon and spewed its contents all over the driver. Car was taken into my local Toyota dealership in Loughborough and they have quoted ?1100 for replacement. This consist of ?400 of part and the rest in labour. They estimate 6.5 hours labour. I have a UK supra. Can anyone help or advise.

Yeah i can advise, they are ripping you off. http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Please can you let us know the name of the dealer as we certainly don't want any other members to fall into this trap.

?700 labour.......what the hell are they doing an engine rebuild ?

Also ?400 for the part is a bit fishy, but may be plausable. However a power steering rack is close to a ?1000 to put some perspective on it.

Do you have any more info on the proposed work ?

Think you need to get your car out of there and to a specialist, but unfortunately i can't say i know of any in your area.

hi dealer is farmer and carlise in loughborough.
400 for parts and then 6.5 hours labour at about ?65 (exc vat)
come to just under ?1100.
Its a power steering cooler pipe (the one visable through the grill in front of the rad).
is 6.5 hours labour correct?

Just curious, if it's the one visible through the front grille, how did the contents end up on the driver?

Hmmmm Farmer & Carlisle in Leicester are one of our listed dealers offering discount.

The most expensive PS pipe i can find online is the pressure one at $235 ?(US Dollars).

It defenitely should not take 6.5 hrs to replace the PS cooler pipe (assuming this is the only one gone).

1/2 hr to remove front bumper
1/2 hr to replace pipe
1/2 hr to refit bumper and renew fluid and bleed.

So approx 2 hrs labour should cover it.

Please bear in mind i'm only quoting from what you have posted and there may be more work thats not detailed, but it would have to be a hell of a lot to make it ?1,100 worth !
