View Full Version : Brake upgrade + other bits

I?m at the next stage of buying some more toys and would like your opinions / advise if you could assist.

Brakes
I?ve got 17? wheels which I?d prefer to stick with.
Standard car apart from CAT back and now about to DECAT as well.
Brake upgrade from my Jspec ones that belong on a mini to something a bit more realistic.
I was looking at a complete aftermarket front & rear setup, but Brembo seem to be the only one that offers this for my size wheels, and they?re a bit pricey and probably an over kill for my tame car.
The UK setup seems pretty good from what I?ve heard and this review:
http://www.lexus.australia.as/technic....ade.htm (http://www.lexus.australia.as/technical_pages/soarer_high_performance_brake_upgrade.htm)
My car gets used for day-to-day use now and again, plus fast/hard/high speed use, but no heavy track days.
I assume the UK setup would be fine, with maybe different discs and pads.
I?d prefer to opt for ?holed? (not solid discs that are drilled if that makes sense) discs rather than slotted, purely for looks really, but I assume they?d operate better as well.
+ braided lines.
What oil to use?

Also looking:
Better cooling - CW larger SMIC with water injection or small 2 core FMIC.

Full Decat 2.5?

All thoughts welcome and appreciated.

If your wheels clear uk brakes then youll save a lot of ??'s by fitting uk front and rear brakes, they work very well indeed, plus the brake bias from front to rear wont be screwed up.
You can get upgraded pads and discs no problem also if your doing the brakes then braided lines all round for what they cost is well worth it and a fluid change (MOTUL RBF600)

Martin F was selling a pair of Brand new front uk calipers not so long ago for ?400
UK discs front are approx ?75 each for o/e.
Not sure how much the pads are.

Think in comparison AP 6 Pot kit is ?1500 but only do the fronts.

If your still on the stock IC then def worth checking it to see what state its in, some are in decent nick and do the job but others ive seen are totally shot and need replacing, certainly cant hurt upgradeing it apart from your wallet that is.
Steer clear of some of the crap IC's on ebay.

I went stupid overkill with mine and spent approx ?1400 on an HKS R Spec, i didnt know any better then but if i ever want to go 600 hp + then i'll be safe http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

V's car is an X-reg if his IC is shot then those 93 cars should have massive problems!
UK brakes if they fit - you can try a wheel on my car if you like at the next EA meet. Braided hoses and RBF600 - stock pads are fine for me at the moment...and you know what I'm running http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif But CW Fast road pads are highly recommended too.
Rotora do a BIG Front/Rear brake kit but at 14" diameter I doubt that you could do that without increasing to an 18" wheel.
I've got a VVTi 1st decat pipe if you want it...2.5"
A second pipe from someone else would be good but becareful of the dreaded boost spike, best to get a restrictor ring for 1.2bar to be safe.
CW FMIC will be a good bet if you want to upgrade, but I've seen a stock one run a single turbo...so it shouldn't be an urgent requirement.

Cheers guys.

My IC looks in great condition, but i'm just concerned that i should need better cooling running higher boost, so i'd prefer to help the situation.

I'm sure i wont be able to fit any BIG brake upgrades such as Rotora with 14" discs. I was more looking at 332mm setups out there.

Alex, that'll be great if you dont mind a wheel change - i'll bring a trolly jack along and buy you a few drinks http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Yes, i wouldnt mind having a look at your Decat as well.

I'm sure there must be an entire list of all the parts & numbers for a UK brake setup but like a numpty i cant find it..... help anyone??

Whats the pros & cons with different brake fluids?

regards

Has anyone got any details/pics of the Greedy 2 core FMIC please?

A 2 Core FMIC will be 600x300x76mm....it's basically what I'm running my single on (Blitz version).
This would be a good compromise for you as it gives you the "look" enough cooling and isn't too big to impede airflow to the radiator. The GReddy or Blitz 2Row will be much of a muchness...
The UK brakes are best bought from the states. Try the two dealers on www.supraforums.com. Elmhurst and the other one. E-mail them saying you want the 17" TT brakes and you'll get the right parts. My own kit came from the states for ?1164 but I didn't get the anti-squeal shims....I'd now recommend getting the shims. The kit included calipers, discs, pads and a fitting kit. You'll need to get your hoses seperately. Try the people I got my turbo from or MVPMotorsports.com. I'll see if I can find the parts list somewhere.

no probs with the wheel swap and I'll bring the pipe too - you going to the next one?

All the part numbers are in this thread http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/cgi-bin....6;t=297 (http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/cgi-bin/iB/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=6;t=297)

It's the TT ones that you're interested in. http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Larger spec Supra brakes are very good, especially if fitted with fast road pads, braided brake lines and Motul brake fluid, for everyday driving these are more than sufficient. Don't fit drilled discs these are prone to cracking and offer little/no performance benefit. Lighter slotted discs such as Project Mu, TRD, etc. would be a good option but are expensive compared to stock discs.

If you are wanting larger spec Supra brake set up, I can get them at very good prices here in Hong Kong and there are big savings to be had even with delivery costs included.

Just the disks, or do you mean including the calipers ?

calipers as well

Yeah thats fine. If you are picky then 'yes' you perhaps should fit the rear brakes as well to bias things perfectly, but experience has shown that UK fronts and Jap rears work fine with no major issues.

No where yet.

Probably CW though.
Should have a second hand 2nd decat pipe lined up http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
So will just need the 1st one.

I'm getting my shopping list together, so hopefully within the next week or 2 i'll be buying a load of goodies to fill my garage with again http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
