Ok i'll try and give as much relevant info as poss.

My uk auto tt has not had a problem till now but not a clue as to whats up. (106k)
I now have the warning triangle coming on, so start car as normal, leave ticking over everything seems fine but press the brake peddle hard enough to put into gear and the warning triangle lights up and stays on.
If you dont press the brake peddle no warning triangle as at 1st i thought i had a g box prob !!
Checked fluids ( gbox engine brake ) and everything spot on
now it gets a little wierd,, if i leave the car ticking over and press the brake peddle quite hard repeatedly the tickover goes all lumpy, turn car off then back on and no prob tickover fine till you repeat the above.
Car appears to work spot on when driving, g box change is fine, no miss fires, brakes seem as good as usual no obvious leaks.
Help http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
Could this be maybe a brake servo prob ??

Bit of an odd one. Reckon the best way would be to check for any fault codes with the ECU and see what comes back.

Cheers Barney, and thanks for link Martin

Afraid electrics was never my strong point, give me a spanner any day http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Ive just read the engine codes link that Martin posted and yep got that no prob http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shocked.gif

Wheres the data link connector ?

Can see me shorting out my whole electrical system v soon http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Really at a loss to see whats up apart from the tickover going lumpy when i press hard on the brake pedal repeatedly the car seems fine.

Whats the link between brakes and engine ?? thats really got me puzzled.

Not sure if this is right but brakes are powered by a servo that is powered by the engine so lots of braking whilst idle causes a rise in engine reves to power the servo. It's like aircon if you idle with aircon on you will see the revs climb then drop and so on.
This is what happens with normal cars, and this is not a fault need conformation from the supra side of it though.
will go and test!

Ta Gambit,

I know the servo is powered by the engine and youll get a bit of rise poss in rpm if useing the brakes at idle but mine is going up and down quite a bit say down to 300 rpm then up to 800 rpm quite quickly back and forth until i turn it off restart and fine, im wondering if the servo poss has an air leak http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Im doing this with the box in park or neutral.

Data link connector is the plastic box on the side of the intake manifold called 'Diagnostics' or the one by your right hand knee when driving, both the same.

As far as i know there isn't an idle up circuit\function for the brake servo on the MKIV

Ok 1st to guess the problem gets 1st shot at taking the http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif out of me.

Think ive just spotted whats up, well with the warning triangle coming on that is.
Not the eratic tickover, that is just a coincidence i think.

Nope not the handbrake, this is stupid but not quite that stupid http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

1st thing i checked in my process of elimination was making sure the handbrake wasnt slightly on.

lol at Barney
i'll let you lead next time m8 and you can set the pace, no more tig with people carriers i'll be http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/run.gif next time.

Brake light bulb not working so a refreshing easy fix after thinking poss something more serious.
I only noticed this when i reversed the car into my garage and saw the n/s brake light reflecting on the wall but not the o/s.

yep the tickover going up n down threw me also,

I think the BMW warning system for simple stuff (lights low pads etc is much better) the Toyota way just leaves you scratching your head as it could be anything http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

In over 8 yrs of mkiv ownership thats the 1st time ive had the triangle come on for a fault !!!
Not bad i guess.

Yep def learnt a bit more so we all benefit.

I now know its def worth checking all the silly stuff before diving in at the deep end.
?1 bulb and fixed.

Whats really weird is now the tickover is fine so god knows what that was all about.
