Hey! well after a few hours of driving ive began to build up a few questions!
-when driving normally and approaching lights to stop, can you put the box into neutral and it will roll to a halt or will this damage things?
-if the box is in overdrive, should it be less responsive than when not?
-when using the engine braking feature, what happens if the car is left in gear 2?

cheers guys!

You can put the box in neutral when you've stopped but not when rolling (well you can, but it isn't a good idea) - you'll bugger the box othewise
Overdive simply provides one extra gear, however overdrive off will redline before changing up.
If you leave it in 2 (in manual mode) for engine braking it will stay there, you can stop with it in 2, and pull away. If you redline it, it will stay at the redline untill you change up.
I think, (not sure) 2 in auto mode will be auto with just the 1st 2 gears.

You wouldn't if we had a drag-race!

There's you wondering when to change up, what gear goes next, how the clutch works, etc. Whilst I've just got my right foot firmly pushed against the floor!

Well changing gear before red-lining it is a start and you'll find that the manual is faster than the auto and im pritty sure the autos weigh more? http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

We all have our own tastes..

But would be good to see an auto go round a track, especially on corners where i can put it down a low gear and power the rear end out.. But then again it cant be that easy to use an auto or else this thread wouldnt exsist http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Anyway sorry to spam thread http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

TBH, I really don't know much about the manual Dave. Auto's are faster in a drag race, but on a track I think I'd rather be in a manual. Being able to pick a lower gear & have the turbo spooling ready is preferable, & I don't really use manual mode much on my auto.
I also find if I am already on part throttle & floor it, the box stays in the same gear & the turbos takes ages to spool up. I have to lift off & use my right foot pretty agressively to get the box to change down.
Pros & cons for both really.

Friends used to mock my auto when i got it...

I was like... Fine.. lets have a race. 0-100. catch is that we have to be eating a cheeseburger at the same time.

Kev,

My TT is an Auto and having driven other auto makes in the States and manuals in the UK I like it. If you use the MANU mode on the Supra it is like a Tiptronic in that it uses a tougher part of the gearbox and the ECU tells it to shift quicker.

Certainly in town I love it as I don't have to worry about the clutch or what gear I am in. On a track, certaily there would be times where you would want to select another gear and keep the turbos on song but in MANU mode it will maintain the gear selected till the redline; so in 3rd it is usable from 50 right up to 135mph.

What I don't know is whether toggling the overdrive at 135 changes up to 4th? Comments anyone?

Cheers

AFAIK overdrive cannot be used whilst in MANU mode. you have to come out of that and then select OD.
