Stock stereo over heats and starts to skip on cd tracks. Is this common?
Any fixes?

mine never had a prob like that,
best option to fix would be upgrade to new stereo http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Looks like I'm gonna opt for an Alpine single din so any ideas where I can get a cd holder for the send slot?

i had a problem with my stereo from the time i had the car it would skip at the hint of a pothole, then after about an hour, get very hot to the touch and come up with an error code. the problem seems to have been that my suspension was so useless ( better than saying s******) that it kept skipping, after i fitted my new coilovers the skipping stopped and it has been fine since ( i now go over potholes and not down them. ) funnily enough the front does not seem to get any where near as hot now either , or is it just me.
