UK Supra TT

Will anyone on here be competing this year? I would like to compete since the turnout was terrible last year for the Supra lot, around 6 cars ran i think, i believe with drag radials on i could achieve mid to low 12s which is what most were achieving last year. Anyone know how i can do this by myself? Or will this club be having a portion of cars running?

We're not entering a club team this year, its been a lot of work organising the things we are attending this year.

Is anyone heading up to TOTB this year?

I'm probably going to do the same as last year and go up on the Saturday and back on the Monday.

There is camping on site this year if you fancy that or plenty of ?local b&bs and hotels. ?These fill up early though, especially if the weather is going to be good for the weekend, so worth booking in advance.

Martin - we should enter in a team for next year......

May well go up on the day.

Not sure how big of a team we could get together currently and also trying to get entry is quite hard as clubs are queuing to enter.

But if enough people are interested i'm happy to look into it.

I was under the impression that on-site camping had been cancelled due to complaints from the locals.

The cutoff for entries was the 3rd of July so you'll probably have to wait until next year now.

Just had a look on the web site, it aint too far from me so wouldnt mind gettin a few mates together and having a ride down. the websites a bit confusing tho, can you pay on the gate or dya have to pre-buy the tickets? is it an all day sunday event, or half a day? have i missed the ticket buying deadline?
so is there a few from here going?

John_M
7th July 2005, 04:51 PM
Rob, its a pay on the gate event running all day Sunday. Last year the queues where quite long comming from the York Bypass in the morning and equally long going back but it is a very good event.

The worst of the traffic will come from the A64 / A1079 junction.
Can't remember what time it started last year but would have thought it would be between 9 & 10.
Remember like all of these drag events it's taking place on an old airfield so there is absolutely no shelter from the glorious sunshine there http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Got back from TotB in the early hours this morning and for those that missed it ( read : all of you ?http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif ) you missed another great show!

Camped on Saturday night ( yes, camped again dunk! ) with some of the guys from GTR-OC and joined them at a pub for dinner and a few drinks that night. ?A freindlier group you couldn't wish to meet and I was made to feel very welcome http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

One of the most noticable things this year, I thought, was the amount of mechanical failures there were. ?This has got to be due to how on the limit these cars have been taken. ?Saw the first car being winched back onto the trailer at about 11am. ?Kev Huntley retired with a split hose again ( I believe ) but kindly lent his propshaft to the CRD crew to keep them in the running after they bust theirs. ?Leon had some serious traction issues which meant wheelspinning on his first run all the way to the 1/8th leaving two black stips and a huge cloud of smoke. ?Great for the crowds but it's believed that probably contributed to the engine problems on the second run ?http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/down.gif Such a shame as the car was performing in tests very strongly. ?Running repairs where being made to the other Supras running all through the day but I believe there where no other major issues.

Of the GTR-OC guys, one had his exhaust manifold split and, even with the best efforts of the CRD team to weld it up, couldn't compete again (but could drive home). Another guy had a run of bad luck starting with his Japanese Bridgestones not being E marked. He managed to borrow a set of wheels to run on but on the top speed run lost his bonnet http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/shocked.gif Borrowed Johns bonnet ( the guy with the cracked manifold ) to carry on but decided that the windscreen cracks would give under pressure so, he also, bowed out.

I'll try to find a link with all the results on but in the meantime..

Rover Coupe - best FWD (then retired with gearbox)

CRD Supra - best RWD and then 2WD

Keith Cowie - best 4WD and overall winner

Much respect to Keith Cowie and RB Motorsport for producing and racing such a phenominal machine ?http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/worship.gif giving a well deserved win.

Nice report John, sounds like you had fun. I planned to go this year but to be honest we've hardly been in the house at a weekend for so long now that there was a long list of things needing doing, including a few bits on the supra.
Shame so many had problems, was hoping the Envy car would do well this year as well as willing Lean on to break into the 9's http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
