Hi there, just advice again, driving home tonight nothing different, listening to music then when the song ended i noticed a scraping noise fron the car, which kind of sqweels aswell, doing say 50mph its a scraping noise but when slowing say under 20mph it turns into a sweel, now i guess brakes/bearing? but it happened all of a sudden no gradual thing, just bang there it was, any help as its dark outside cant see a thing, will have to take it to a garage tomorrow but want to be armed with some info first. thanks

p.s it seems to be coming from front/passenger side

It's really hard to diagnose noises over the internet, and for my part what you're describing doesn't tend to lean towards anything obvious.

Exhaust isn't dragging is it ? http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Sorry for not answering you quicker lol think you need to give your replies a bit longer, some of us work nights http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I had a very similar thing and it was a piece of rock wedged in the caliper and scraping on the disc only a tiny piece but sounded horrific.

Matt, always best to check the simple things first. Could be something like Dunk said, from what you describe I would be inclined to check your pads, low pads could = metal on metal which would fit what you have described. Beyond that, check for anything fouling the wheel, suspension etc.

Good luck http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/buttrock.gif

Just had another thought, It might well be one of your belts squeeling, although a scraping noise is not generally assosiated with belts. Also, check for anything stuck under the front of the car, is your undertray loose and fouling the road at all?

Sorry for being too impatient, its just i trust you guys and wanted to be armed with the info i needed before going out today to sort it, anyways thanks. Now went in the car to go to the garage and its gone, so i think maybe the rock stuck in the caliper idea was right, man i shouldn't have panic'd, but bad day at work you know the score http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif thanks again, next time i will give you guys time to breath before expecting a reply http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well shouldn't think things just go away, after driving to the local town yesterday, after about 2 min on the main road i realised it wasn't a small stone, the noise returned, so poped to the local garage and by the time i got there it sounded worse than being at the dentist http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif ,still the guys had a look (nice guys) and basically one of the front pads had exploded, have no idea why but there was about 1cm sq of pad left, nice, still done now and every thing is cool now (for sure this time) http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif thanks again peeps.

That's a bit unusual.

Glad it's sorted.

I had the same thing as Dunk, some small chunk of rock caught in the calliper and caused horrible scraping queeling noises..

took the wheel off, took the caliper off, and gave it a clean and refitted the caliper and pads it was on the passenger side rear...

I had that strange noise as well last weekend.
I hosed down the calipes with a jet wash to no avail.
I took it to an empty road to see if there were any major brake problems by standing on the brake pedal from 20mph.
I even took it on a motorway drive.....
The sueal has now gone, but theres a quiet rotary rubbing noise still coming from the front passenger brake.

Im hoping a front caliper/disc/pad upgrade will cure this and a general lack of stopping power.

Im thinking of using Budweg 4pots and budweg drilled/slotted discs UK Spec setup with Willwood pads.
Any opinions on this guys?

Sanj,

I haven't heard of either brand of products. I've looked on the Budweg site to see if they specialise in a certain market or have any credentials to their name but don't see anything.

We'll see if anyone else can come up with something...

No I couldnt find anything either, but they seem to make a pretty serious range of components so i dont think its a cowboy outfit.

I suspect they are responsible for making the replacement parts for many manufacturers i.e. if you go to Toyota and ask for UK Spec Calipers, they'll order them from Budweg.

I saw pictures on the net and they seem to be identical to the official Toyota items (minus the decals).

Either way, im expecting the upgrade to be infinately better than the stock J-Spec items.

Is it work replacing the hoses do you think?

Toyota calipers are made by a company called Sumimoto (sp?).

Never heard of Budweg i'm afraid, what nationality are they ? Do they produce any motorsport poducts?
