I'm thinking of replacing my brake disks and pads. What is the best set-up in people's opinion? Ideally I don't want too much brake dusk? Also an idea of the overall price would be helpful.
What about braided lines aswell. What are people's opinions on these?
Thanks

Braided lines are a defenite IMO, along with new fluid.

For day to day driving the stock disks and pads are pretty good, but an uprated pad can help if you are planning on doing any spirited driving or the occasional track day (make sure you take a spare set of front pads if doing a track day). Something along the lines of CW fast road pads, TRD or Endless equivalents.

What about vented/drilled disks? I've heard they warp easy?

Drilled crack easily and stock ones are well vented anyway.

There is a possibility that grooved disks may aid braking but there is nothing conclusive to say this is the case with modern pad materials. The grooves were initially machined into disks to allow gases which built up between the pad and the disk (reducing friction) to be vented away. But with modern pad materials these gases are far reduced.

Stock uk discs and pads are more than up to the job, make sure though you get left and right hand discs and get them on the right sides of the car as there handed due to the vents. LH and RH is cast into the disc

Braided lines definetly and while your taking it all apart take off all the outer seals and check for piston corrosion and split seals, in fact well worth just changing them otherwise you'll be doing what ive just done and be buying new calipers !!
Motul RBF brake fluid How much do you want i have stock in my parts and service collection !!! i also have a seal refurb kit which can be yours if you want it.

I would agree with most of what has been said. Braided hoses will help improve brake response in a very minor way anyway as they tend not to bulge, exaggerating it like a std rubber hose. At best I would go for grooved disc as these can help reduce brake fade by removing the gases on heavy braking, although as has been said, the std brake set-up is pretty good so is probably not necessary on these cars.
I'm always a little sceptical about up rating pads. For track use where they get much hotter, a definite yes, but for normal road use they will often deteriorate your brake feel as they don?t warm up properly leaving your brakes feeling even less responsive, particularly from lower speeds.

The biggest improvement in your brakes will be changing the fluid unless its aready been done, afraid mine was at least 6 + yrs old as i'd never changed it and just doing that shocked me at the differance.

hi Kev

I did a bit of research on this a few months ago but ended up fitting the toyota discs and pads again

Front discs pads and shim kit from toyota ?210.47

this was after I ask for a discount :)

I,ve got to get the braided hoses fitted yet but from my motorbike days I can confirm that it will improve the brakes no end

Rob that's the answer to my question, though I really would like some grooved disks as they look so :coolpeek:

They wont worsen your braking but will increase brake pad wear slightly.
I'd probably consider grooved disc when I replace mine just cos they look nicer...:coolpeek:

with respect :)

RBF600 is DOT4 rated but, does exceed 5.1 and DOT 3 standards.

One thing to mention about braided lines - If you lines don't come with a mounting bracket to actually attach the line to the car body, similar to the stock setup, some MOT places can fail you on this - Only if they are being.....a jobs worth!!

I have Goodridge lines which, did not come with any mounting bracket and after 2 or 3yrs worth of MOT's at the same place with them fitted, the 4th yrs MOT they decided the lines were flapping in the wind and were a hazard....yeah right - 4 cable tie's and 24hrs later - job done :)

I think the Goodridge lines supplied nowadays do come with the additional mounting brackets. Its only the ones from a few years back (mine included) that don't.

Maybe Kev can confirm when he gets his.
