I know you said you hate Nos, but i have a Supra with a Nos kit fitted, but will never be used and to much hassle to remove all the pipe work and get it re mapped. I will have to declare it even though i will never use it, is there any way round this for insurance or is it a case of remove it all together?

Cheers Cass

You have guessed right Cass. Remove it or we can't insure it. I don't have that much knowledge of NOS instals but surely it is worth the hassle to get it taken out? And if you are using the vehicle now without NOS then you don't need a remap? What are you doing now insurance wise? We could always give you a quote on the basis it isnt there and you could compare with what you have now and see if it is a worthwhile saving.
Here to help if we can.

If the pipework is still there and the bottle removed would that count as "Removed"

At the moment i am only insuring my MR2, but that will be getting sold and the Supra coming out to play around August time. It is a J-Spec Auto Single turbo with a fairly high mod package.

I would be quite happy to get a quote from you Jason so i can see what i have to play with

I bet you can answer this without my help Cass............

NOPE.

Insurers aren't stupid, actually they are but on these sorts of things they are not at all trusting. Can you imagine of they accepted that youdidn'thave abottle in then you were not using it ever. I do think i might be able to think of a couplde of less thanhonest sould who might just might actually put a bottle in and use it even thoughthey had told the insurer they weren't!

There are folks out there who do cover NOS so don't let me tell you only to take it out. have a look around and see who will, give us a call and see how much without.

Good luck.

Jason

I've been speaking to Claire today regarding my insurance, and I'm really happy withe the quote I had from Livingstone's. Thank you Jason. The premium has gone down by over £80 and that's after I increased the BHP by 55 horses.

I have a question though Jason. I'm playing devil's avocate here, but lets say a member who has an agreed value on their car, mainly due to the fantastic condition, has an accident. Let's imagine a bump from behind. No where near enough to write the car off, however would this said person have any choice as to which bodyshop it would go to?
We all know there's good and there bad about, but I know a few of us would prefer it to go to somewhere like G&N in London, who have a fantastic reputation for their finish. Most of us wouldn't be happy with Joe Bloggs down the road.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Kev,

As for your quote, as you have so much done to your missile already the "slight" (for you) increase in HP was not enough to worry me. Hell what's another 55 when you already have a million of those ponies available! Now if it was a standard car and the HP went up by 55 HP then there would have been a slight increase. It's all relative.

Your price went down by the way as you obtained a slightly higher age discount this year. Good news for all!

Now to your question on who to use. It is a common fallacy that anyone HAS to use the recommended repairer. You can use who you want. The insurer does not have to pay an inflated price however. If the going rate is x per hour then they will try and get your repairer to charge that and they often do. It just slows down things that's all and you often forego the "guaranteed" loan car (which is always "subject to availability" which means it isn't "guaranteed" does it (Am I sounding jaundiced here?)

As we are not a main stream "Mondeo man" insurance broker (although we do place them I hasten to add on the normal markets, so if you have an everyday car do give us a call!) and specialise in taster vehicles we POSITIVELY promote you having a say in where they go as this often means IT IS CHEAPER! Yes! I can tell you tale after tale of specialist repairer being a lot cheaper then the so called big boy recommended repairer, simply because they can do the job better and quicker. Sometimes we have even been happy to accommodate the policyholder sourcing their own secondhand parts as new ones were not available.

So in answer to your question, yes we do allow it. It does slow things down from an approved system, but who cares if it takes an extra week or two if the job is done better?

Cheers everyone, anymore questions?

Jason

On the back of an RAC van, hardly . It was a hypothetical question Cass. It's something I've often wondered. I've seen some of the work cars get repaired in the office carpark, where the guy sprays the car under a canopy, and dries the paint with a hairdryer. Everytime I see him, I just think 'I wouldn't want him doing that to my car'.
