hi there.

i am new to this supra scene and have just purchased a reasonable (if tatty round the edges inside) black 1995 supra TT jap spec with full veilside kit, blitz front spoiler, blitz FMIC, s/s Exhaust and HKS inlet kit. those are the only mods i can see on the engine side.
also it has Panasport G7 split rim 17" alloys and inside has a blitz 3 gauge set over the glovebox (built in kinda thing)

so to my question... any ideas what sort of power i should be expecting out of this atm?

and where to head next mod wise?

i dont even know if it's been de-limited or anything yet... it still even has the 180KPH clocks reading KPH but correct for miles round the outside (i.e. only reads up to about 110 mph)

any help is greatly appreciated

Hi again Martyn

Do you know if the CATs have been removed ?

cant say catergorically but it does look like the big one has so maybe the pre cat is still there.

on the downside, i think i was right... i think my 2nd turbo has bit the bullet tonight.

oh dear...

Well the next tuning stage would be to get rid of the remaining cat if its sill there.

What makes you think one of your turbo's has gone ?

TBH when people have intermittant turbo problems it usually means there is a problem with a split or loose hose.

Do you have a boost gauge plumbed in ?

yes i do have a boost gauge.it reads approx0.5 kg/cm on first turbo, then drops at the point of the second turbo to about half that, and also makes a not nice noise

Well that doesn't sound too good but still doesn't totally confirm things.

One of the best ways is to perform the temporary true twin conversion and see what the total boost is. This will attempt to run both turbos at the same time and then you can see from your boost gauge the maximum boost.

Instructions are here
http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/ttc/ttc.htm

If you do the temporary mod and still only see about 0.5kg/cm then i think its fair to say your second turbo is broken. If however you see 0.7kg/cm + then it would indicate a problem with the sequential operation.

Problems with the sequential operation tend to be down to a hose off or split somewhere and sods law says it will be one of the small hoses that are hard to see. http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/down.gif

well she's been in for an MOT and cambelt, and i askedthe guy at the garage to just check for split hoses etc as i haven't had the car long, you know, just a sorta once over to see if there was anything glaringly obvious that i wouldnt see.

he mentioned that there was a couple of loose hoses on the inlet side and said he'd tightened them and to see if it was any better on the drive home.

what a difference!!!

it was quiet, smooth and the boost pressure went from 0.5 kg/cm to 0.75 kg/cm on the first stage. ?does that ?sound better?

so she now has a spangley new MOT and shiney cambelt.

mod time i believe ?http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif

Martyn,

All sounds good now mate. Bet your driving round with a big smile.

Whereabouts are you roughly, I ask cuz I have a Supe and also a 1380 1967 Mini 118 genuine bhp and thought perhaps we should meet up to compare motors sometime.

Started work on a turbo a series but decided that to get it to be a good bit faster than my NA we'd need about 160bhp. Money to do it with max reliability was too high. Ended up with a Supe instead, which is nice and also totally stable above 120mph - big advantage over mini http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
