Life has been kind recently so I have treated myself to a
proper modern medical grade endoscope. This enables me to
examine pistons and bores from down the plug holes. So if
anyone is running different turbos or mega boost and wants
the engine checking for detonation, or have lunched a turbo
and are wondering if any bore damage has occurred, which
usually DOESN'T show on a compression test, I have the gear.

I intend to offer all six bores and pistons examined for
75 pounds initially, inclusive of the labour removing and
refitting the coil packs and plugs, on the TT engines.
Probably not of interest to owners of stock cars unless
they have an engine smoking problem or want a potential
purchase examined.

Nice one Chris.

We've often talked about getting one here, the only reason we haven't (yet) is because it's very rare they would actually help us in any way, although for curiosity's sake they are brilliant http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Most engines with internal engine damage will show up problems via leakage tests (compression checks aren't all that as you say) or quite simply by looking at the blue smoke belching out the rear http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

There are of course engines which may have piston crown damage (digs etc.) which you will never know about via 'traditional' testing but I've seen these go on for as long as other, perfect ones. Not advisable with real hairy engines though.

For sure, there are some occasions when a endoscope would be beneficial. One of the ultimate Cool Tools and will always be on the engineers wish list.

FWIW to the members, I would say ?75 to undetake the job, including plug removal is a very good price.

Oh, and with equipment like that hanging around I hope we are not going to hear of you moonlighting.... http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
