View Full Version : Advice for new n/a owner

Need some help. ?Have just got my hands on a Jap spec '94 NA - need some good advice on first stage of basic mods - have plenty of experience modding bikes - but cars are usually ' just transport ' - so hold my hand when required please !!

Currently looking at exhausts and induction kits performance wise, and suspension and brake upgrades for the handling.

Car is currently stock apart from 18" Kahns and well harsh lowered springs.

Bring on the advice - please note first stage of mods will have a budget of ?1500 ish - so no AP brake kit and big single turbo suggestions.

Cheers

Well, there is nothing much to add to the power of the NA, exhausts and induction kits don't seem to do much to them.

I suggest brakes first. Or just save your money until the budget is large enough to go the FI route. http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

First thing i would do would be to lose the CATs. They restrict the breathing of the car and you should find a noticeable difference in performance for doing this. Also fitting a freer flowing exhaust at the same time would be a good idea. If you find Chris Wilsons details (on this forum) he usually keeps decat pipes for the NA in stock.

Doh - I forgot about the cats. Opps, definately a good start, though I still would not bother will the rest of the exhaust, more noise than power.

Just been to Chris for a full exhaust system for my N/A Hyper Silent ? http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biglaugh.gif The sound is awsome (IMO) tickover is reasonably quiet which is exactly what I wanted but when you open her up it certainly gives you a beeoootiful sound. I cant help grinning to myself when you welly it in 2nd and 3rd.
As you say its de-catted and I believe it has made the lower accelaration better but I think its more noticable pulling from around 80+. Oh yeah and a 4+ inch pipe out the back does look good too http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Tis may be a silly queston and have been asked before, I have a 95 N/a and was thinking of removing the cats, whats the legal stance on this - re: MOTs etc

Be prepared to bolt them back on once a year for the MOT, it will fail. Not sure if you can get away with a single cat removal and still pass though.

Apparently you can.
