Hi Guys.

Hope you all keeping well.

replaced my bonnet back to the original one today while i finish fiberglassing the mesh panels in and noticed that i have an oily smearing on the Air Intake pipework directly in front of the BOV ( ie, BOV exits over the pipework ).

Does this mean theres oil in the intercooler pipework, ergo a sign of a turbo on its way out? I still havent gotten around to removing the remaining cat so cant check the exhaust under acceleration.

Its not unusual to have some oil exiting via the BOV when its vent to atmosphere, just like its not unusual for there to be a small amount of oil in the intake pipework. This is most likely from either the PCV system as this feeds back into the air intake or it can be from worn turbo seals on the compressor side. The main thing to do is to keep an eye on it and see if it gets progressively worse. If it does then it warrants further investigation.

I have very fine -and I mean very little as well oil vapour coming from bov only just enough to mark a paper towel on big blow.
I presume this quite normal? Only a very fine trace in pipework and absolutely no smoke.

Yep, not usually much to worry about. As above it could just be the PCV system letting some of the gases blow into the intake.

The main thing to keep an eye on is to make sure it doesn't get noticeably worse, that could then be a problem with turbo seals or blow by.

Well it may not be a fault with the PCV system itself rather a fact that there is pressure in the PCV system that shouldn't be there. That can occur for a few different reasons.

However there is one item in the PCV system that can fail and really should be changed at higher mileages as a matter of course, its the valve in the cam cover on the intake side of the engine. Its about ?12 + vat from Toyota IIRC.
