View Full Version : Possible faulty actuator?

I posted a short while ago in the "Performance Electronics section" about the overboosting problems with my Blitz EBC.

I have checked the full install and its seems to be right. I have the the Top actuator connection blocked off and am connected to the front / lower port.

The overboosting problem was on and off at first but now its permanent and damn annoying http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

No matter what I seem to do with the controller settings it simply overboosts... I've had it read 23 psi when the controller is set to "0"

I'm guessing that my actuator is the cause of the problem?

Would you agree and if so can I fix it or where can I get a new one?

Thanks in advance..

Hornet.

If this was my car, i think i'd put everything back to stock plumbing to try and narrow it down between the stock stuff and the aftermarket boost controller.

Do you know how it all goes back together ?

Hmmm, not really as I didnt put it all in so don't know where the original hoses go to and from?

Just curious though, how will I know if its over boosting if I put it back to stock cause my controller wont be plugged in and I dont have another boost readout device?

Cheers

Will put it back to stock boost / unplug the EBC and re-connect std hoses tomorrow Martin, if it still boosts high what will it be? and vice versa ?

Grant,

Use the guide on MKIV.com and just do the reverse of it.

I'll go back to stock without problem, all the bits are there.

Its a wierd problem for sure Grant ?http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Give me a call if you need any help. Or if you want to bring it up for that intercooler and we can look at it then ?http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Best Regards,

Gaz.

I remember now i was replying to this the other night and we had a power cut ............. Doh!

Anyway there is a stock hose routing diagram around somewhere (its a pictire of a sticker that is normally under the bonnet) i'll try and dig it out later on, but its fair to say its not the best diagram in the world.

If you are still overboosting when you put things back to stock then it is most likely a problem with the wastegate actuator.

Umm is this not just becasue you have a 3" decat in a j-spec that can't control boost with just a 2.5" decat? Or have you got a restrictor in?

Don't need a restrictor ring with a DSBC, although i think you've highlighted that if Grant puts all back to stock with his de-cat he will probably still see excess boost as all J-spec decats do.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

I had the "better" SBC-iD and I needed a restrictor ring. And that was with 2.5" decat pipes.

Well i've fitted these and managed to hold boost fine at 1bar with no restrictor ring on Jap spec and UK spec.

Just thinking about this again Grant have you checked all the hoses to and from the solenoid to makes sure they aren't split or leaking. Also has the car ever held boost ?

Hmmm, just to fill you in so far on what I have found out.

When I had the Decat's fittted one of the stud's / bolts snapped and did not have another one. I was driving it around for a few weeks with it blowing before I got round to booking it in to have the other stud fitted to seal it properly. When I had it fixed the boost keeps going into the 20's and still is.

Then this morning I had a thought http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif maybe the garage took the restrictor ring OUT!! I just rang them and they said they saw this ring and thought it was a gasket of the wrong size so they bored it out for me (HOW KIND) I promptly explained to them what it was and did and they have agreed to re-fit a new restrictor ring free of charge http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Thanks to Gaz @ Envy who is sending me another ring.

Will let you know how it goes http://www.mkivsupra.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
